Graduate Assistantships
Many graduate departments and programs offer assistantships to their graduate students. This list is not comprehensive and students should contact their department for more information and opportunities.
There are a limited number of graduate assistantships available to full and part-time graduate students who are fully accepted to a graduate degree program at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University. Graduate assistants provide services to ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ such as administrative, research, faculty support and other. In return, selected students can be eligible to receive a tuition waiver and, in some cases, a stipend.
Students are limited to one Graduate Assistantship a semester.
Note that some listings below provide application instructions, while others indicate to contact a supervisor by phone or e-mail. The availability of graduate assistantships vary by department, semester and academic year.

Office of Accessibility
Description
The assistantship is a one year position. The graduate assistant will work with undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities and/or temporary impairments. The graduate assistant will provide administrative support for the office, including the coordinating of exam scheduling and note-taking services, and assist with general office reception and administrative tasks.
Exam Scheduling & Notetaking Services
- Assist in scheduling, tracking, data entry and proctoring for students with disabilities and/or temporary impairments taking exams in Accessibility
- Proctor exams using online camera system to ensure academic integrity and alert Accessibility staff of any concerning behavior
- Understand all delivery and return methods for exams and execute exceptional attention to detail in communications with professors and students
- Help coordinate and distribute notes from peer note-takers to designated students
Provide Reception/Respond to General Inquiries
- Provide information regarding how to register online for accommodations
- Assist students with general inquiries and make appropriate referrals when necessary
- Determine the nature of and urgency of appointments when scheduling
- Provide general information to students regarding academic programs, student support services, academic and accessibility procedures
Provide Administrative Support as Needed
- Assists with preparing information and materials for programs, events, and student appointments
- Contact students to confirm attendance at appointments and/or to make appointments
- Targeted outreach at various times in the semester to provide support, resources and appointment requests
Skills/Experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills required, excellent interpersonal skills required, and computer proficiency/strong working knowledge of MS Excel is desired. Applicants should have experience and/or interest in counseling, school psychology, and student development.

Athletics
Coaching
Description
Graduate assistant coaches will assist the head coach in all aspects of the specific sport, including: coaching, recruiting, scheduling, budget management and compliance with NCAA and conference regulations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Must be accepted to a graduate degree program at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University.
Experience
Prior coaching and collegiate playing experience preferred.

Charles F. Dolan School of Business
Graduate assistants provide services to the Dolan School of Business such as administrative and faculty support, professional development, internship support, peer advising, and other clerical duties for the academic year. In return, graduate assistants receive a stipend disbursed twice; once in fall semester and once in the spring semester.
Description
The graduate assistantship entails working closely with the director of internships and professional development and Dolan staff to organize, publicize, and implement functions relative to the office. A successful candidate must have an interest in career development and in working with fellow students.
Graduate assistants receive the same training in general career development issues and will perform some of the same duties. The following are areas where candidates can expect to benefit from and build their resume. Assistants will gain experience in:
Counseling/Training
All graduate assistants will be trained to present and develop career-oriented workshops, critique student resumes, and counsel students. They will also guide fellow students on internship and job search strategies, as well as using Stags4Hire.
Event Planning
Graduate assistants will develop, organize, and implement special events. Some key events may include: Wall Street Basics, Marketing MIXer, Etiquette Dinner, Sophomore Symposium, Week of Service, and special on-campus speakers. They will also communicate with alumni, faculty members, and staff and will publicize special events to students.
Training is provided. Enthusiasm, dedication, problem-solving ability and creativity are required. Computer skills are a plus. Positions are loosely defined to allow the graduate assistant to contribute to the development of her/his position.

Center for Social Impact
Program Overview
The Jones-Zimmermann Academic Mentoring Program, funded by a grant from the Marie & John Zimmermann Fund, is an afterschool program focused on academic success and social/cultural enrichment for middle school (6-8) students from Cesar Batalla School in Bridgeport. ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ undergraduate students work in a 1:2 ratio with students in grades 6-8 to provide homework support and mentoring. The program will be offered in partnership with the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse, every school day from 3:30-5:30pm. Afterschool time will be split between tutoring/homework help and enrichment activities.
The program will also include periodic field trips, both to ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University’s campus and an off-campus location.
Graduate Assistant Coordinator Position Job Description
The JZ-AMP Graduate Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the program’s operations. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Training and supervising ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ U undergraduate mentors
- Coordinating homework help and tutoring program (on-site)
- Liaising with staff from Wakeman Boys and Girls Club and teachers from Cesar Batalla School
- Monitor progress of Cesar Batalla students through data collection
- Coordinate logistics for field trips and other program events as needed
- Assist in pursuing additional grant funding opportunities to expand program offerings
The Graduate Assistant Coordinator will report to the Associate Director for Community-Engaged Learning in the Center for Social Impact at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University.
The position offers a $3,600 tuition credit each semester- 12 hours/week for 15 weeks per semester. The program coordinator must be on-site at Wakeman Boys and Girls club at least 3 days/week from 3pm-6pm to assist in program operations. The remaining 3 hours are for administrative tasks and can be completed remotely or on campus.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Prior experience developing/delivering youth educational programming (e.g. teaching, coaching, counseling, mentoring) and/or experience working with university undergraduates

Description
The College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Assistantship will assist the Dean's Office with routine tasks. Being proactive with visitors is essential. Answering phones, routing calls, and addressing the traffic flow within the office are major components of the graduate assistant's responsibilities, and a friendly warm presence is needed to accomplish this effectively.

Description
The Fredrickson Family Innovation Lab is currently accepting applications for a graduate assistant for the 2023-2024 academic year. The graduate assistant will work in the Fredrickson Family Innovation Lab, and greet and assist visitors in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines. The lab can be reserved for workshops, tutorials, and classes by ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University faculty; when not reserved, the lab is freely available for students. The graduate assistant will assist the co-directors with event planning, website maintenance, program meetings, and oversee Work-Study personnel. Description
The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences runs the Adrienne Kirby Family Literacy Project to enhance low-income children’s language skills and school readiness. As a Graduate Assistant, you will be involved in training and supervising the work of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University psychology undergraduates who volunteer or participate for course requirements at the Hall Neighborhood House Early Learning Center classrooms and afterschool programs in Bridgeport. Most of the work takes place on the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University campus, but the Graduate Assistant’s presence will be required at Hall Neighborhood House for five Fridays each semester.
Qualifications/Experience
Applicants must be available two to three days a week, for a total of 15 hours per week. Applicants must be available on five predetermined Fridays each semester for on-site visits to Hall Neighborhood House. Individuals must be able to make a two-year commitment to the position. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant must have a valid driver’s license by the time the position begins.

Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies
Description:
The graduate assistant will work with faculty to help in the classroom setting in terms of supporting course delivery, grading student work, leading study groups, or facilitating learning activities. The assistant might also support special projects within the Egan School, and faculty research projects. A graduate assistant will be matched to an instructor based on their clinical, technical, computer and research skills. Self-initiative and a good work ethic are important. Strong computer skills are essential. The assistant must be able to work independently and operate as a team member with the Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies.
Qualifications:
Must be admitted to one of the Egan School Graduate Programs.
Available Positions: Up to 20 per semester (fall and spring).
Deadline: July 15 for the fall semester and November 15 for the spring semester.
Service Hours Awarded: Students may elect to complete either 5 or 10 hours per week for the 14 weeks of the semester (total hours=70 for 5 hours/week; 140 for 10 hours/week)

ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Mathematics Center
The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Mathematics Center
Description: The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Mathematics Center is seeking a graduate assistant to support individualized and group tutoring sessions in calculus and introductory statistics courses. The appointment is for the full academic year 2024-2025, 15 hours per week, including the final exam period.
Responsibilities: In addition to leading group tutoring sessions in Explorations in Math (MATH 1015), Precalculus (MATH 1011), Calculus (MATH 1016, MATH 1121/MATH 1122, MATH 1145/1146 and MATH 1171/1172) and Statistics (MATH 1017 and MATH 2217), the graduate assistant may be involved in tutor training, leading review workshops, and other administrative duties for the Mathematics Center.
Qualifications: The position is open to ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University graduate students enrolled in 2-3 courses per semester (both fall and spring) with preference given to those in the Mathematics program or the 5-year Education in Mathematics program. Previous experience in tutoring calculus and statistics is expected. Students enrolled in fewer courses per semester may be considered for a reduced award. The stipend may also be divided between 2 graduate students, one per semester.

The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Writing Center is seeking a graduate assistant to support individualized and small-group tutoring in writing.
Responsibilities
The Writing Center is currently accepting applications for a graduate assistant for the 2023-2024 school year. Applicants should be flexible, dynamic, and engaging, as well as organized and detail-oriented. Primary responsibilities include: one-on-one tutoring, small group tutoring, peer mentoring, event planning, and organizational activities related to writing center administration. The graduate assistant must be conscientious and considerate while supporting the success and general well-being of both graduate and undergraduate students, as well as undergraduate tutors. Desired qualifications include experience with project administration and event planning; promotion, social media, and web development; and mentoring, tutoring, and staff development. Applicants should have a strong interest in writing across the curriculum and cross-disciplinary work, multi-lingual writing, and inclusion, equity, and access in writing. Applicants should also be willing to coordinate and host a variety of workshops and events for writers in middle school through graduate school.
Qualifications
This position is open to graduate students in any field of study; experience in one-to-one tutoring and small-group mentoring is preferred. The graduate assistant will assist with implementation and maintenance of Global ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ student support systems for study abroad and international student & scholar services. May work with the following systems

- Banner/ISSM
- Workday
May assist with SIS conversion
Document procedures
Qualifications
- Graduate student in the process of a Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Data Science or similar program
- Experience with web and database design a plus
- Knowledge of ERP systems (Banner and Workday) helpful but not required
- Able to follow standard instructions, practices and procedures
- Self-motivated, team player, detail oriented
- Able to meet required deadlines
- Ability to work independently with high degree of accuracy and attention to
- Excellent communication skills
For the spring 2024 semester, the tuition benefit is not available. The graduate student will receive $20 per hour for 15 hours per week.
For subsequent semesters, the graduate student may choose to receive either the graduate tuition benefit ($4500 towards tuition each semester) or an hourly rate of $20 per hour for their work and requires a commitment of 15 hours per week for 15 weeks each semester. The position is renewable for a second year by mutual agreement.
This position is based at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University’s ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, CT campus and is not eligible for immigration assistance. This position will work on-site but some remote work possible.

Description
Assistantships are available on a semester basis. A graduate assistant shall be appointed to a curriculum area or the dean's office and assigned as determined by the Dean and the faculty responsible for the curriculum area.
Qualifications
Applicants should have good interpersonal and organizational skills, and should be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Prior office experience is preferred.

Deadline: Applications are accepted throughout the year. Assistantships are awarded as they become available, usually right before each semester begins.
Service Hours required and tuition remission per semester:
5 hours per week - $1,500
10 hours per week - $3,000
