Why ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ: ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ offers everything we were looking for in higher education. With a highly specialized, accredited Biomedical Engineering (BME) program and a number of study abroad opportunities (including the U of Galway, a world leader in BME), we were incredibly impressed. ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ provides a robust list of resources, for students and parents alike. We wanted our son to be part of a community, on and off campus, and yes, ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ's got it! Last, certainly not least, we wanted our son to continue his education at a Catholic University.
Advice for First-Time Parents of College Students: Rest assured, ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ WANTS your child to SUCCEED. This was evident with each visit and session we attended and in all of the detailed emails from ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ.
Our Experience as Members of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s Parents Community: Thus far, we are grateful to be in the company of parents who value their child's education. We are thankful to all of the parents who have shared ideas, tips, and guidance through social media outlets.

Why ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ: The emphasis on cura personalis is the aspect of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University that appealed most to us as parents. In addition to providing our daughter with an outstanding academic education, the opportunity she has at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ to develop her character and worldview in order to become not just employable, but more importantly, a compassionate contributor to the greater good is unique to this institution. ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ doesn’t just promote this ideal, it lives and breathes it in all aspects of the college community so students have a worthy model to emulate.
Advice for First-Time Parents of College Students: Encourage your child to look at a variety of different kinds of colleges and visit the campuses together. Sometimes the image you have of a type of college and/or pre-conceived notions held about a particular institution are not at all the reality.
My Experience as a Member of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s Parents Community: Our experience as part of the University’s community has been completely positive. We have felt welcomed, included, and valued members of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ family since our daughter received her acceptance letter. The communication ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ provides parents is outstanding! We are always well informed and kept up-to-date, which has been particularly challenging during the Covid-19 crisis. Nonetheless, ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ has exceeded our expectations in this regard.

Why ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ: ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s close-knit Jesuit community, excellent teaching, great leadership, strong alumni network, and overall dedication to student growth and development are many of the aspects that are important to me as a parent. I was particularly impressed by ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s leadership during the coronavirus pandemic. They were quick to respond, made data-driven decisions, kept students safe, and developed a program to ensure safety measures were maintained. This is unchartered territory for all, and the way ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ managed the pandemic speaks volumes.
Advice for First-Time Parents of College Students: Based on the status of our current environment, everything is fluid and subject to change for both students and families alike. And with so much uncertainty, be certain ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ puts your students best interests first.
My Experience as a Member of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s Parents Community: Being located 3,000 miles from campus, I have been incredibly impressed with the efforts ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ has taken to ensure we are included in local events and activities. We have had the wonderful opportunity to meet with ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ faculty both on campus and in California.

Why ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ: ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s size, location, and extremely loyal alumni base stood out to us initially. Having met alumni from across the country, there is always an overwhelming love for the University and their experience at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ. After visiting, we were very impressed with the campus and the school’s commitment to supporting academic, athletic, and student experiences. The new facilities, including the new Dolan School of Business, are state-of-the-art and more than impressive. The beautiful campus and its close access to downtown ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ and the beach made the environment a perfect setting for the college experience.
Advice for First-Time Parents of College Students: Be involved enough (but not too much) to guide their selection of a school, but let the student find and enjoy their independence.
My Experience as a Member of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s Parents Community: We have really enjoyed the sense of community from the administration and students at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ. We love attending Alumni Family Weekend and visiting and supporting Athletics. We also had the honor of hosting a newly enrolled student meet-and-greet, and it was so much fun to see how enthusiastic the new students and their families were about attending ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ.
